July 10, 2012, stands out as one of the most memorable events I’ve ever covered. I had the privilege of receiving credentials for the MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City—a significant occasion as the city hadn’t hosted the event since the 1960s. As a die-hard sports enthusiast, I was thrilled beyond words. The three-day event was a whirlwind of excitement.

During that short week, I worked as a camera operator for Brandon Spiegel and Michael Admire. Admire's parents graciously hosted us at their home, adding a personal touch to the experience. One of the pinnacle moments for me was interviewing Bo Jackson, my all-time favorite athlete. Meeting him was profoundly humbling and an experience I'll cherish forever.

The game itself was a spectacle, with so many All-Stars gathered in one place. At the time, I was a Texas Rangers fan, and seeing Josh Hamilton, their star player, smashing homers in the batting cage was a highlight. This game also held special significance for Chipper Jones, as it was his final All-Star appearance before retiring.

Among the many highlights was the celebrity game. I enjoyed chatting off-camera with Matt Cassel and Bill Self, who brought their own flavor of fun to the event. A particularly amusing moment was when Ozzie Smith carried KMBC’s camera before the celebrity game practice.

Despite the sweltering July heat typical of the Midwest, the experience was worth every second. Looking back, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an unforgettable week in 2012.
