June was always my favorite month during my time working in news. The warm summer days brought a welcome break from the relentless snow and ice, and we were past the hectic sweeps period. Plus, many of the higher-ups were on vacation, creating a more relaxed atmosphere in the newsroom.

One standout day was June 22, 2017. I had the opportunity to feature a truly fascinating location on our morning show: the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. If you’re a fan of space exploration, this place is a must-visit. We were highlighting their summer camps, but what really took me by surprise was their incredible museum exhibits.

The Cosmosphere houses the largest collection of Russian space artifacts in the United States. For someone like me, who finds space incredibly intriguing, this was a thrilling discovery. Covering stories like this was a rare and exciting departure from the usual news cycle, making it one of those memorable days in my career.
